NIKE RISK EVERYTHING AT PHENOMENAL HOUSE
So this week I had a chance to check out the events, which
happened over at Phenomenal House hosted by Nike. With the upcoming World Cup, this was a week
long celebration of innovation, football skills and culture of the game.
An exhibition showcasing the best examples of the innovations Nike has developed over the years with over 150 trainers and football boots - a chance for you to pick out the ones you had, the ones you own and the ones you wish you had!
Arsenal legend Ian Wright also gave a great insight into the
beautiful game with stories of his time playing football and those big moments
in his career including breaking the long standing goal scoring record set by
Cliff Bastin and in place for 58yrs – a real demonstration of why without risk
there is no victory. I was also lucky
enough to get my football shirt signed by the man himself, a dream come true
for a lifelong Arsenal fan.
Throughout the week, we saw five-a-side football battles
being hosted in a caged pitch with teams reppin the North, South, East &
West along with a Rinse FM team made of up of the capitals biggest music stars and
a live broadcast from the event.
The highlight for me though was the Risk Your Sole element
– eight teams made up of leading sneaker retailers and legends of the industry going
head-to-head putting their prized sneaks at risk with a battle decided by the voting public initially
and then culminating on the pitch. This
really was the who’s who of the UK sneaker community both involved in the
battle but also at the event supporting all those involved with the footwear on
display attracting many admiring glances.
Winners of the public vote were the Icon 87 crew with an
all star line-up of the hottest kicks and going into the next round on the
pitch with their kicks being safe and a points advantage. However it was not to be on the night and SNS
were crowned overall winners on the night– newcomers to the UK scene but making
a big entrance to coincide with their recent store opening. Also a bunch of good guys as rather than
“stealing’ the other teams prized sneaks, they took the surprise box and won a
behind the scenes trip to the Nike HQ over in Oregon – a prize that many can’t buy.
A massive congratulation to everyone that too part and of
course Nike for a tremendous week of events - not sure what I’ll do with myself
now it’s all over!!!
