BLOG TAKEOVER: SARAH BUTCHER - "BOARD GAMES" REVIEW
A good friend of ours, Sarah, passed through the Selfridges "Board Games" project last week and has done a review of the event for us! Check out her Blog Takeover below and make sure you give her a follow over on her Twitter and Instagram.
Kicking off last week in the London Selfridges store, is a 6 week campaign celebrating all that is good & great in the world of skate and surf culture and I checked it out, in all its glory on Friday.
A totally immersive experience starts when you enter the “The Board Room” which is a concept store-within -store – a wall of boards instantly grabs your attention with exclusive designs from the likes of BBC, Y3, Boy London to your high end haute couture brands of Christian Louboutin, Giuseppe Zanotti & Jil Sander - all from only £75 for a piece of art.
However this isn’t lacking in substance due largely to the expertise of an in-house Slam City Kicks to help you with installation of trucks, wheels & grip tape – along with answering any questions. You can also pick up the latest SBs although not the soon to be released Tiffany Dunks it seems, I had to ask!
The theme runs throughout the store with exclusive clothing ranges along with fierce visual merchandising – think mannequins clad in Dries Van Noten with matching surfboard. Even the kids section is on-point with giant plush skate wheels to sit on and snapbacks hung on the back of boards. It was really refreshing to see street culture picked up by such a big retailer with a real genuine feel to capture all ages and wallet sizes – I even came away with two boards myself.
